I am certified and have practiced Animal Reiki for about a year and a half. I use mainly on cats and dogs, more so than people. Practitioners are people who practice Reiki. Reiki pronounced (ray-kee) is a Japanese system of healing using energy. “Rei” means spirit, “ki” means energy. Sometimes translated as universal life force energy, founded by Mikao Usui in the 1920′s. Reiki is energy that comes from a Divine Source (creator, God, etc.) and is available to everyone, regardless of religious background. Reiki is not a religion and does not follow any doctrine. Reiki is used for people, animals and plants. There are 3 levels of Reiki, the third level is a Reiki Master. You can continue and become a Reiki Master/Teacher. (There is a Western version, I study/follow traditional Usui Japanese Reiki).
Kathleen Prasad is founder of Animal Reiki Source. She is a Reiki Master/Teacher and author and dedicated her teaching career to Animal Reiki full-time in 2002. Reiki cannot harm your pet and is non-intrusive. It can be given hands-on or a short distance away. You cannot give your pet too much Reiki and is used to heal, relieve stress and in healthy pets, maintains health. Reiki energy goes where it is needed most, whether a physical or emotional healing is needed. In fact, the Reiki practitioner “lets go” without expectations to let Reiki do its work. The practitioner’s function is to be a channel for the energy to flow. Reiki is a great system to use for shelter and rescue pets. There is more to Animal Reiki if you would like to learn more.
