Technical Difficulties

Hello Animal Lovers! My computer finally went to hardrive heaven, so I will not be able to make new posts at this time. Thank you to all my followers! Please feel free to browse over the many articles I have published and hope to be back online soon.

Please remember as summer is upon us, keep your pets hydrated. Do not leave them in a hot car, even in the shade with windows down. Watch out for those pesky fleas, and please use natural flea control.

Tell and show your pets how much they mean to you everyday as they show us. I am adding my foster dog permanently to our family. She is such a sweetheart and has the most awesome personality. She has been in our family for about 7 months.

My pet sitting has been running full speed. I started watching 2 cats February 18 which turned into 6 cats, kittens. They will be going to a new home today, as I am sad to see them go now after having them for so long. Their humans fell on hard times. Quite frankly, I was looking forward to watching the kittens longer. They turned 2 weeks old last Friday.

Tea Tree Herbal Salve

Sweet pea patch at the barn.

Summers Past Farms

I bought tea tree herbal salve, a natural antiseptic, at Summers Past Farms. I bought it to use on my daughter, she fell off a horse and had some scrapes and abrasions. Then I used it on my daughter’s shih tzu’s hot spots, my cat’s wounded paw and a sore on my golden’s tail. It has so many uses and replaced so many unnecessary products in my medicine cabinet. Oh, and I also use it on my dogs paws, they were very rough and the hot pavement does not help. (watch your pet’s paws on hot pavement and sidewalks). Their paws are silky smooth and I am sure feels a lot better!

I use natural products on my pets, they are safer and cost-effective. My cat and shih tzu licked the salve and they are fine, but use with caution, tea tree oil can be toxic to ingest and you do not want to put pure tea tree oil on skin. I used in an open wound on my cat’s paw and wrapped for three days, it healed quickly. I changed her dressing everyday.

Tee tree  herbal salve  is only $7.95 for 2 0z. Ingredients: sweet almond oil, olive oil, beeswax, wheatgerm oil, jojoba oil, aloe vera. Infused with  lavender flowers, calendula, chamomile, rose geranium leaf, rosemary leaf, comfrey leaf, lavender, ylang ylang and tea tree essential oils. Great for dry hands, best for cuticles and the feet! Beeswax holds in moisture and keeps out germs. (ingredients are not listed in order of quantity as in food and other products)

Petition: End Deadly Injuries to Greyhounds

By

Target: Sarasota Kennel Club

Goal: Stop unnecessary greyhound deaths due to unsafe race tracks

Greyhound racing is a cruel and inhumane act in and of itself. Beautiful greyhound dogs are cramped in tiny kennels, deprived of social interaction and experiences. Many are killed when they are no longer suitable to race, and others are injured from overexertion or unsafe race tracks, which was the tragic case for two dogs that died on the track at the Sarasota Kennel Club in Florida.

A greyhound, just shy of two-years-old, died suddenly during his third official race at Sarasota. He was reportedly bumped by another dog, stumbled, and “landed on the electrified lure tracks that are located under the guard rail.” The veterinarian’s report was as follows: “Dog fell or was pushed within 20 yards of leaving box. Fell under rail. Death by electrocution, burns on jacket.” Appallingly, the race continued without interruption, despite the dog’s brutal death. The lure track operator reportedly said he was “thankful that no one was seriously injured” following the horrific event.

This was not the only tragic death to occur at the Sarasota track. Only weeks earlier another dog died from similar causes. A state investigation report reveals that 14 greyhounds died at the Sarasota Kennel Club between November 2009 and April 2010, including one instance when three dogs died on the same day. These gentle, hard-working animals deserve so much more. Demand that the Sarasota Kennel Club ensures the safety of all dogs that run on its track, guaranteeing that no more tragic deaths will occur, or that it closes its doors to spare the lives of other greyhounds who are forced to run on this deadly track.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Sarasota Kennel Club,

Recently a greyhound died of brutal electrocution during a race on your track, a tragedy that was simply swept aside as the race continued on, with no changes being made since to ensure that such a terrible fatality does not occur again. This is not the only death that has occurred at your facility. According to state reports, in recent years 14 deaths had occurred over the span of a short five-month period. Only weeks before the recent tragedy another greyhound died of similar causes. Doing nothing to better your track in order to prevent these unnecessary deaths is despicable and cruel.

I urge you to either take drastic measures to ensure that your facility is safe for the greyhounds who are forced to race there, to ensure that no more innocent animals die at the Sarasota Kennel Club, or close your doors for good. Greyhound racing is a cruel practice in and of itself, but allowing the dogs who race at your facility to encounter such horrific sudden death and injury is unimaginable. Put an end to such tragedy today.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]

Dogs Are so Forgiving!

Heidi, Samantha, and Zeus

Heidi, Samantha, and Zeus

I have two rescued Shih Tzus in my home, so the following story from the ASPCA really hit home. I am sad to hear of ANY animal abuse. I have first-hand experience with rescued abused Shih Tzus, I do not understand how anyone can harm one of these little adorable dogs or any animal for that matter. If you have any knowledge of animal abuse, please please report it. Call your local animal control agency. I have seen first-hand and have read many stories of how forgiving dogs are after they have been horribly abused, some left for dead.

My daughter, Samantha, adopted Heidi in 2008 after she was abandoned at the kennels my daughter worked at. Turns out she was abused and abandoned many times. Today she is happy and healthy in her forever loving home with her siblings. Samantha adopted a male Shih Tzu, Zeus, in January 2013 after fostering him for a month. His story, briefly, he was brought to a shelter by his owner after neglecting medical care for his eyes. He was to be euthanized for being aggressive and saved his last day by a rescue organization. He had one eye removed and 10% vision in his other eye from abuse. He is a happy well-adjusted doggie now in his forever home. He does occasionally bump into things! Both of these Shih Tzus do not hold a grudge and are very loving!

Tiny Dog Survives Brutal Beating, Finds Home with Volunteer

ASPCA volunteer sitting on couch with dogs and catEva Podietz is one of the ASPCA’s most dedicated volunteers. Scores of ASPCA animals have benefited from Eva’s care, and the most recent addition to Eva’s furry family is Bentley, a little Shih Tzu who suffered immensely before starting his new life.

Bentley came to us after a devastating kick to the head that left him with a dangerous brain hemorrhage, broken jaw and a broken skull, threatening to destroy his tiny brain stem. He could barely stand or move his legs.

Any sudden movements could have killed Bentley in those early days. ASPCA veterinarians provided critical head trauma care, medications to reduce fluid build-up in his brain, and comprehensive pain management. Our hospital staff could tell that Bentley was a fighter. He survived those initial days. Then the first two weeks. As soon as he could, Bentley began lifting his neck and wagging his tail to greet staffers. And one day, Bentley began to regain use of his legs!

But Bentley was still a bit scared of people, and he wasn’t eating as well as they’d hoped. They placed him in foster care with Eva, and he quickly gained a pound and started to open up. “After a month it was clear it was an adoption, not a foster,” Eva tells us. Now he is showered with love, attends doggy daycare and, despite everything he’s been through, “doesn’t seem to hold a grudge.” Read full story.

Problem With Cats on Your Desk?

cats on desk

The Cat House on the Kings.com

My cat does the same thing, she loves knocking pens in the floor. She helps me type on the computer, lies on the keyboard of my laptop. If you give your pets a special place in your home, it makes life easier for both of you. My cats were always knocking over the nick-knacks on my shelves, I made a shelf for them and put blankets on it. Problem solved.
