Is your dog afraid of fireworks or thunderstorms? Dogs and cats have anxiety for many reasons, a move, new pet in the house or loud noises. The fourth of July is right around the corner. If you do not know if your pet is afraid of fireworks, see if your pet is afraid of loud noises at home before taking your pet out. You can get these sounds off the internet.
Light and music have effects on animals. A blue light is calming to an animal. A red light stimulates. This can be done simply by buying a blue light bulb. Music is also soothing, just as it is for people. How do you feel when you hear a hard rock song or a ballad or country songs? Play slow even tempo music for your pooch or kitty. Sometimes I play Zen-like music or easy listening, something soft.
Milk contains a natural chemical called tryptophan that tells the brain when to relax. Pets calm down when given warm milk, between 1/4 and 1/2 cup of milk according to holistic veterinarians. (I give my pets milk sometimes). I am sure you have heard don’t give your pet’s milk.
Calm Pet is an herbal combination of kava kava, chamomile, St. John’s wort, and valerian root, available from veterinarians. Chamomile tea alone is good for calming pets and oatmeal, just like we eat. (These herbs are used to treat people as well). If you use herbs for your pet on July 4th, give them to the pet about an hour before the noise starts or as recommended by your vet.
Taking your pet for a long walk is helpful if you are leaving your pet on July 4th to relieve your pooch’s energy. Leave on the TV or soothing music which helps drowned out the noise and works as a calming effect. Remember your pet picks up on your energy also, such as being stressed, upset or anxious.
Pets are very responsive to the energetic healing properties of Flower Essences. The energetic bouquets from Pet Essences are both dynamic and gentle in their transformational abilities. They will not harm animals, or people, there are no unwanted side effects.
Pet Rescue Remedy is the name of a flower essence combination to reduce panic. One way to use is to put 2-4 drops between your pets lips and gums several times a day, just before things get noisy. Or put a dropperful in pets water to drink throughout the day.
Thundershirt uses gentle, constant pressure to calm your dog. It also calms dogs and from separation and travel anxiety. Thundershirt for cats relieves anxiety and fear. TTouch body wrap works on the same principle using moderate pressure to comfort the mind and body during periods of stress.
